Cameroon replace Conceicao with Song on orders of country´s president

Cameroon have sacked Toni Conceicao and appointed Rigobert Song as their new head coach.

The change of manager was made on the orders of the country s president, Paul Biya, on the back of last month s Africa Cup of Nations disappointment.

The Indomitable Lions had been targeting continental glory on home soil, only to suffer a penalty shoot-out defeat to Egypt in the semi-finals en route to finishing third.

Conceicao was appointed in 2019 and also guided Cameroon to the 2022 World Cup qualifying play-offs, with a two-legged tie against Algeria coming up later this month.

However, the 60-year-old will not be in charge for that upcoming double-header, with the Cameroonian Football Federation confirming his departure on Monday.

Is Mats Hummels still an elite defender?

Mats Hummels will be back at Borussia Dortmund next season after the club agreed a transfer with Bayern Munich, but questions have been asked over the size of the fee.

Dortmund are reported to have parted with €38million to bring back Hummels, who at 32 is likely heading into the latter years of his career at the highest level.

It is clear there is no real resale value involved in the deal for Dortmund, but if he can help break Bayern s dominance of the Bundesliga the club will feel he is worth every penny.

Hummels club career could also be extended by the fact he will not be playing international football, having this year been dropped from the Germany squad by Joachim Low.

He hasn´t got the minerals for Man United – Rio Ferdinand glad Dybala didn´t sign

Juventus star Paulo Dybala does not have the minerals to be a Manchester United player, according to Red Devils great Rio Ferdinand in a scathing assessment of the Argentina forward.

Dybala was linked with a move to Old Trafford as part of a potential swap with Romelu Lukaku towards the end of the Premier League s transfer window, but a deal never materialised, as the former Palermo talent reportedly opted to stay Italy.

Ferdinand – who played for United between 2002 and 2014 – believes manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is better off without Dybala and believes he does not have the required attitude to play for the Red Devils.

A lot of players have declined coming to Manchester United in recent years, he told the Daily Star. They ve chosen somewhere else.

Hallgrimsson leaves Iceland post

Heimir Hallgrimsson has stepped down as Iceland head coach in the aftermath of the nation s maiden World Cup appearance.

The 51-year-old, who first joined as an assistant in 2011, advised the Football Association of Iceland (KSI) of his decision to move on after nearly seven years with the national team.

He previously shared the top job with current Norway boss Lars Lagerback, the pair famously guiding the tiny nation to the quarter-finals of Euro 2016.

Hallgrimsson, a part-time dentist, then took outright control of the team and made further history by guiding his country to the World Cup for the first time.

But an impressive 1-1 draw with Argentina proved the high point in Russia as subsequent losses to Nigeria and eventual finalists Croatia condemne…

After an emergency meeting on Monday, Juve announced key figures including president Andrea Agnelli, vice-president Pavel Nedved and managing director Maurizio Arrivabene had all quit their roles.

Llorente insists trophies are within Tottenham´s reach

Fernando Llorente insists Tottenham are capable of winning trophies but warns the team must improve their performances.

The striker, who joined from Swansea City on transfer deadline day, made his Premier League debut for Spurs against his old club in Saturday s 0-0 draw at Wembley.

Mauricio Pochettino s side have won just two of their first five league matches in 2017-18, leaving them five points behind Manchester City and Manchester United at the top of the table, and they have not claimed any silverware since an EFL Cup triumph in 2008.

But Llorente believes in their chances of success this season, particularly in light of their impressive 3-1 win over Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League last week.

I think Spurs are one of the best in the Premie…
